A Place that Changed My Life
Do you believe in miracles? If not, let me tell you a true story that will make you believe in miracles. There was a little girl, who was extremely shy and timid. She would always clench her mother’s skirt and hide behind her mother, and no one, except her family, can get close to her. If you try to force her, she was sure to scream out loud!
One day, this little girl went to a special place that changed her life. It was a wonderful school named Happy Marian. By now, I believe most of you have guessed it. Her name is Sophia. You’re right! I’m the girl in the story. I have been learning English at Happy Marian since I was three years old. Now, let me continue on telling you my story.
It was one day when I was still in P2 that the teacher handed out the Annual Speech Competition application form to us. I remember not giving it a second glance before cramming it into my book bag. How on earth is it possible for a shy girl like me to stand on the stage and give an English speech, I thought.
Two weeks later, as the speech competition got nearer, I began to feel bad as everyone in my class was preparing for it, Everyone, except me. After some time of struggling, I somehow managed to pick up some courage and decided to challenge the impossible task. My family and teacher were all very surprised when I announced this to them. A week before the contest, I signed up for the competition and began preparing for it. After over and over practice, and with the guide from my teacher, I was ready to give the speech.
During the speech competition, I was super nervous, but I still was able to give the speech smoothly. With my classmates all being well-prepared, I did not expect to win the competition. After a short break, it was time to announce the winner. I heard someone call out my name and was surprisingly shocked by the results. The winner was Sophia, which I had thought impossible.
I couldn’t believe my ears, but it was true! I have won the competition! My family and I were super delighted that I won my first English speech competition. Ever since I won the speech competition, I attended many big and small speech competitions and had won many prizes and other achievements. The most important thing is that I am no more the shy girl I used to be. Now, I am always confident when standing on stage, and I can easily speak up when with confidence when talking to my foreigners.
You might think it is impossible for a girl to go from extremely shy to whom I am now today, but it is true! This is all because of Happy Marian. If it were not for the teaching system at Happy Marian which helped me build up my confidence, I would never know that I have the talent for speaking in public. The Happy Marian system lightened up my path to English and led me to fall in love with the language little by little. Now, I love to write my own story in English and I love to have English conversations.
After reading my story, do you believe in miracle now? I believe you do, because once there was a girl who was extremely shy, but now she shines like a star on stage. That is a living proof of miracles.
