It has been a wonderful experience watching the development of Marcus’s mental and physical growth throughout his preschool academic experience with Happy Marian. I think one key element for this is mostly due to the professionalism of their academic system, which turns everyday experiences and interactions into powerful opportunities of learning. They understand that each child has unique educational needs and emphasize on learning through age-appropriate practice in a play-based yet educational environment. I would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the teachers and staff members of Happy Marian for their passion and commitment in guiding our children through this educational adventure and ensuring the well-being of our precious little ones.

During Marcus’s preschool stage, we could see that he was always very enthusiastic about going to school, eager to see his friends so they could do cool and fun learning activities. These activities helped the development of his social behavior and also engaged in basic literacy and cognitive skills, which are all very important in the early stages of a child’s physical and mental development. It was truly amazing watching Marcus grow and share his experiences with us every day. His favorite day was always Monday because he would have a chance to take one of his favorite toys to school, and all the kids in the class would take turns presenting their toys, and then they would share their toys with their classmates and friends. They also developed other social behaviors with good practice of outdoor activities that would teach them how to communicate with other students, how to resolve conflict with friends, and also how to work as a team.

I personally enjoyed asking Marcus about the projects from the arts and crafts class that he would bring home. From these projects, I could see the improvement of his motor skills, such as hand-eye coordination, and the expansion of his ever-growing imagination. Another aspect that I found amazing is the fact that it seems that from one day to another, Marcus’s vocabulary and verbal abilities would suddenly improve and expand, making it feel like he just grew older overnight. His conversations suddenly had more depth, and his questions would correctly be focused more on the topic he was trying to convey. He could phrase a sentence properly and have a thought process throughout his own developing logic, and they started to make sense. We noticed that his sponge-like brain was triggering various parts of his mind when asked questions that required him to process them in his head, and it was fascinating seeing the gears turn up there.

From all the learning experiences Marcus has gathered from his time with Happy Marian, I think an important one is being respectful and considerate to others. He learned he should always be respectful to elders and be considerate to everyone he meets, whether they are friends, teacher, or family. Always keeping in mind good manners, being well behaved, and practicing proper etiquette. But as important as being respectful and having good behavior is also staying connected with local traditions and folklore. What I appreciate Happy Marian’s teaching is that they not only focus on reminding the students not to forget where they come from but also teach and guide the students towards the infinite possibilities of where they can go.
